Subdivison

The subdivision node splits currently existing parcels within the specified sub-area into separate lots dependent on the input value of parcel depth – if multiple parcels can be made from a lot that are at least as deep as the input parameter, they will be created through splitting the lot. Any buildings on lots that have been divided are removed, and new buildings on the newly created lots are generated at centroids according to input dimensions. Demographic data is then downscaled onto the new dwellings and trees are generated on each new parcel according to the input for the relevant parameters. The first trunk of a tree on a parcel is located at the either the northern or eastern corner of the building occupying the parcel (depending on the lot’s orientation), and each successive trunk is located at the next corner anti-clockwise of the building. Finally the land cover grid is updated to reflect the changes in the urban form.

Note: the generated trees do not effect the land cover and exist for visualisation purposes (the fraction of tree cover assigned is dependent on what is entered for the value of the tree cover proportion parameter).

Description

Default

Values

Infill fraction

DOUBLE

The percentage of lots that are redeveloped if they fit the parcel depth criteria (i.e. if set to 1, all parcels that can be divided to create lots at least as deep as the parcel depth parameter are split)

1

0.0 - 1.0

Parcel depth

DOUBLE

The minimum depth (where depth is the dimension perpendicular to the street-facing dimension) of a parcel created from dividing an existing lot (i.e. a lot will not be split if it cannot create at least two parcels as deep as the parcel depth value)

14

0.1 -

Building width

DOUBLE

The width of the buildings generated on newly created parcels (width is the dimension parallel to the street-facing dimension of the parcel)

10

0.1 -

Building length

DOUBLE

The length of the buildings generated on newly created parcels (length is the dimension perpendicular to the street-facing dimension of the parcel)

13

0.1 -

Residential units

INTEGER

The standard residential unit for the infrastructure area that has been redeveloped (i.e. if set to 1, each new building developed will be assigned demographic data equal to one average household; if set to 2, each building will be assigned data equal to two average households)

1

1 -

Hardstand proportion

DOUBLE

The fraction of the area of a parcel (minus the roof area) that is taken up by hardstand surfaces

0.4

0.0 - 1

Tree cover proportion

DOUBLE

The fraction of the area of a parcel (minus the roof area) that is taken up by tree canopy cover

0.1

0.0 - 1

Irrigation fraction

DOUBLE

The fraction of the remaining non-roof area of a parcel (after accounting for hardstand surfaces and tree canopy cover) that is occupied by irrigated grass (as opposed to dry grass)

0.5

0.0 - 1

Percentage of lots with trees

DOUBLE

The likelihood of a tree being placed on a lot

100

0 - 100

Number of trees per lot

DOUBLE

The number (entered as a whole value) of trees placed on a lot, on the provision the lot is to recieve at least one tree (which is controlled by the ‘percentage of lots with trees’ parameter)

1

1 - 4

Tree canopy diameter

DOUBLE

The diameter of the canopies of the trees generated

5

0.1 -
